I bite my nails and a piece of nail is stuck in my gums. I will see a dentist but how can i remove it myself?

It’s a small piece of nail that I can’t remove no matter how much a gargle, floss or brush. It’s very annoying. Obviously I need to see a dentist but what I can do to remove this nail by myself first?

People who bite their nails: when you bite them do you eat the nail piece or spit it out?

I’m just curious. I am 26 and have had the bad habbit of biting my nails for 20 years.
I spit it out. But I have heard of people who grind the piece of nail they bit off with their teeth and swallow it. I don’t think that’s very healthy ?
